study people for the subtle cues in body language and facialexpression and for
the nuances in tone of voice. They study non-verbal cues- what people are thinking,
feeling, intending, and doing. Our kids miss the social language and unwritten
and unspoken social rules. They lag in social development compared to their
peers and don’t quite seem to fit in.There are links between beginning
acting skills and what our kids need to learn.A scaffolding of social-emotional
skills starting with small, easy-to-master steps and moving into more complex skills will make the difference for our kids.We use a variety of exercises to teach discrete acting and drama skills and practice
pre-social and social skills in a controlled environment.Specific techniquefocusing on movement, body space, tone of voice, and facial expression will create and effect
change in the social dynamics for kids with special needs. In a very unique way
this program can speed up the natural learning process because itessentially
breaks down the acquisition of social skills into smaller pieces through the use of acting and drama techniques. The foundational strength of this program comes from appropriate research which conveys an understanding
of the social and educational needs of students with Asperger's, Autism, AD/HD, learning disabilities, Bipolar, Tourettes,
and...
